On Sunday, April 21, 2024, St. Matthew will host a "Friends and Neighbors Sunday." This is an opportunity for you to invite someone to come and worship with you at St. Matthew in our 10am service. We will have a simplified order of service with a message to help visitors get to know what we believe and teach as Lutheran Christians. Following the service, refreshments will be served in the Fellowship Hall. Please save the date for April 21 and join us for our first Friends and Neighbors Sunday!

Here is a summary of our services and activities for Holy Week 2024:

+ Palm Sunday, March 24:  Join us for a 10:00am service in remembrance of Jesus' entrance into Jerusalem on the Sunday prior to His passion.

+ Seder Meal, Thurs, March 28:  Join us for a 5:00pm meal in remembrance of the Old Testament Passover and Jesus' Last Supper with His disciples. An RSVP to the church office is appreciated for planning purposes.

+ Maundy Thursday Service, March 28:  Join us for 6:30pm worship in remembrance of the night when Jesus was betrayed. Our service will focus on the celebration of Holy Communion.

+ Good Friday Tenebrae Service, March 29:  Join us for 6:30pm worship in remembrance of the day of Christ's death for us on the cross. Tenebrae is the "Service of Darkness." We'll remember Christ's final words from the cross as He gave His life for us on that dark Friday afternoon.

+ Easter Sunday Breakfast, March 31:  Join us from 8:30-9:30am for food and fellowship prior to our Easter Sunday worship service.

+ Easter Sunday Service, March 31:  Join us for worship at 10:00am as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord!

Information for our third annual Easter basket project:  we'll be assembling and delivering Easter baskets for the homebound, those in nursing homes, and for caregivers and nurses. If you would like to have a basket prepared for a loved one, please contact Anjanette K. or the church office by March 1. (Recipients do not need to be church members.)

We will need volunteers on Fri, March 22 at 3:30pm to assemble the baskets. Then, on Sat, March 23 at 1:30pm, we will meet at church to load up our baskets and carpool to Superior Health. We will pass out baskets and also sing hymns for the residents at 2:30pm. 

Thank you to all those who have donated items for the Easter basket project this year!

St. Matthew will have a 6:30pm Ash Wednesday service on Weds, February 14, marking the beginning of the season of Lent. The service will include Holy Communion and the imposition of ashes. 

Lent is a 40-day season of preparation for Holy Week and Easter. We will have additional Lenten services each Wednesday from Feb. 21 - March 20 at 6:30pm weekly. Our theme for these services will be "On the Night that He Was Betrayed", a 5-week sermon series on Jesus' words and actions on the Thursday night before His death on the cross.

Join us also for an evening of food and fellowship on the eve of the Lenten season, Tues, February 13, for a Mardi Gras themed meal at church at 6:00pm.

Due to the ongoing cold and icy conditions, Bible study for Wednesday, January 17 will be cancelled. Please join us next Wednesday, January 24 at 10am as we continue our study of Isaiah.

Also, the Prayer Vigil for Wednesday, January 17 will be rescheduled to Wednesday, January 31 from 5-7pm. (Additional details about our prayer vigils are found below.)
